Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Algeria

Mahinur Ozdemir is a former Belgian politician and currently Turkey’s Ambassador to Algeria. She was a member of the Parliament of the Brussels Capital Region serving 2 full terms between 2009-2019. She is well known for being the first Member of Parliament to wear the hijab in Europe. Her expertise lies in education, women’s rights and equal opportunities. She is renown in Europe as a powerful voice against Islamophobia and a leading advocate for minority rights. Mahinur Ozdemir was recently appointed as Turkey’s Ambassador to Algeria. She is also a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Women Consultative Council. Furthermore, she has been awarded the honorary title of Chevalier de l’Ordre de Leopold by King Philippe of Belgium for her contribution and service to society. She is married and has two children.
